The Documentation Center for Bibliographic Information on Islam and the Muslim World
The work of this documentation center is oriented in three directions:
1. Documenting the bibliographic information available about the Islamic world and Islam in different languages, Islamic or universal. Such bibliographic information includes national bibliographies of books and journals, library catalogues, manuscript lists, indices of university theses, indices of specialized publishing houses, published bibliographies, etc.
2. Establishing an information database for academic establishments devoted to the study of Islam and the Islamic World, and categorizing these establishments according to their interests and locations. To date, 6000 academic and research establishments have been counted, and the project still continues.
3. The documentation center participates in the funding of the Islamic Index , which is a quarterly index of periodicals. It was created in order to catalogue articles from Arabic magazines about Islamic studies and the Muslim World. Each article is catalogued according to the author’s name and the subjects discussed in the article. Between 1989 and 1994, 28 issues of the Islamic Index have been published.
